Silton Hall - Grade II Hall & Swimming Pool

Lovely house but poor communications with host

Pros: Lovely house and location with stunning views. Plainly furnished with sufficient seating for the 12 of us. It was cleaned to a high standard. The pool was a great size and it was a bonus to have towels provided. The garden was well maintained and is secured so it is safe to let children or a pet dog run around.

Cons: Communications. I specifically asked if the Aga shown in the photos would be on and was told 'the kitchen is equipped with an Aga and an electric hob and oven'. The Aga was not on, and no-one responded to my messages sent on the website on how to turn it on plus a voicemail left and a conversation with the host who never got back to me. The electric oven wasn't fully functioning either. Overall, we were disappointed about the Aga, and frustrated by poor communication.

Fantastic for a family get together, with an awesome pool!

Pros: The property was spacious and comfortable and the pool was an excellent addition. The location was beautiful despite us not being able to fully enjoy it due to weather.

Cons: The lack of outside lighting from the hall to the pool was troublesome, especially as we had to climb a sort set of relatively steep steps. It would have been helpful if there had been a tumble dryer alongside the washing machine (especially for wet towels), but this was a minor issue. Some of the party would have liked some additional decoration for Christmas time, but we brought our own, so not an issue for all.

Beautiful, stunning Easter egg hunt family gathering!

Pros: I booked this house for a family gathering. My parents live 5 minutes away but wanted somewhere big enough for everyone. It was definitely a WOW house and exceeded my expectations. The views, the location. Just breathtaking! We had some young children there and it was perfect for an Easter egg hunt and the weather was on our side. The pool was great and warm enough. The house got a little chilly but I managed to use the thermostat and soon warmed up. Towels were really nice and big and soft and plenty of them. Beds were comfy and nicely made up. I wanted to stay longer and will definitely be returning!

Cons: There’s only a couple of things, some areas were a little tired and could do with a bit of TLC. I also requested a later check out, just an hour but it wasn’t allowed as other guests were arriving and the cleaners needed to get in there at 10am. Which is fair enough. But it was quite a push to get everyone and everything out by 10am. And I later found out the cleaners weren’t going in that day. Never mind.

A wonderful weekend in a gorgeous big house, despite some details.

Pros: A gorgeous house big enough for a large group to enjoy without feeling too crammed in, with spectacular grounds and a fabulous pool. We loved spending a long weekend swimming and lounging on the grass, and the living spaces were great for playing games in.

Cons: There didn’t seem to be nearly enough by way of pots and pans to cook for a group of 12 people. Three guests, myself included, had specifically checked the listing beforehand and seen a barbecue listed under facilities, so we brought food along for one. There was no barbecue, and when a guest called up the hosts to find out why, it sounded like the customer service wasn’t great. One of the legs on a chair at the outdoor table was bent/broken and crumpled beneath a guest who grazed and bruised her leg. A couple of the loungers in the pool also seemed to be falling apart. I think the decor throughout could be more thoughtful (eg. mirrors and cheap pictures from IKEA put up wonky) and in keeping with the age and character of the property to give a more ‘wow’ experience inside as well as out.

A wonderful stay at Silton Hall - we’re already planning our next trip.

Pros: We had the most amazing stay at Silton Hall with extended family. The grounds are beautiful and felt like a real surprise when we arrived - it’s hard to capture the stunning views in just a couple of photographs. The pool was immaculate and had lots of inflatables ready for the children to use which we didn’t expect! Northallerton is such a bustling little town and not far at all, we visited twice during our stay and also got the train to York from there. A brilliant location.

Cons: Although the kitchen had plenty of plates and glasses, other utensils needed for a big group cooking together were limited or didn’t work very well. We wanted to eat in a couple of nights and struggled to do this without buying some extra dishes to cook food in. Upstairs is very warm - a few radiators won’t turn off and the bedroom windows wouldn’t open.

Perfect for large group

Pros: The location is fantastic, the size of the house is amazing and was great for the size of our group. There was enough space and bathrooms for 14 people without making it uncomfortable.

Cons: The house was very cold, i appreciate it is a large house but a better heating system could be used. There was mould in some of the older bathrooms with poor showers (particularly in one bathroom. There also appeared to be an infestation of lady birds in the top bedroom

Great place perfect for large family gatherings

Pros: Great facilities, loads of room along with idyllic grounds with fantastic views. Spotless throughout with fantastic attention to detail from the cleaners

Absolutely perfect we all want to come again next year

Pros: The location was amazing, so peaceful, perfect for family enjoying the grounds, the pool was such a great addition and was perfect, we all loved our stay 😊

Perfect for our family birthday celebration .

Pros: Exceptional location, well suited to a large family group. The pool exceeded our expectations, was very warm. Couldn’t make the most of the extensive gardens, as our visit was in February.

Cons: Lack of ensuite bathrooms.

Pros: very nice interior and exterior, well maintained and clean.

Cons: No washing machine facility
