Lovely pub in a great location

Pros: Great location and a lovely pub. Room was really cosy, comfy and quiet. We didn't have an evening meal there, but had a few drinks - nice beer and a welcoming atmosphere. Staff were friendly. Breakfast was good too and you could park outside. Would definitely stay there again!

Cons: The lovely sash windows in the room were painted shut. We like fresh air in the room (even in February) so that was a shame and I would think twice about staying in the summer because of that, but that really was the only negative. Would recommend it as a really nice place to stay.

Lovely old building in a beautiful location.

Pros: The newish hardworking owners are making a great job of breathing new life in to this beautiful old pub. Since taking over in July - after the place sat empty for 18 months - they have concentrated on renovating the bar area, and it looks and feels great. More work is planned in the bedrooms but the place already has a different, more upmarket feel. The breakfasts were excellent.

Cons: Nothing to report. Updating the bedrooms will only enhance the experience.

Disappointing, but promising!

Pros: Location, breakfast, lovely bedding and soft fluffy towels. Great downstairs area with open fire, warm and welcoming atmosphere. Staff, engaging and happy.

Cons: Our two night stay was literally one bad night one good night. The first room we were allocated was really disappointing, both in decor and the comfort of the bed, we could literally feel the springs of the mattress and so had a terrible night's sleep. We brought it to the attention of a staff member first thing in the morning who said we should have complained the night before. I said it was 10.30 when we got into bed and were very tired and also did not want to cause any bother at that time. We were willing to leave without staying the second night but were told that we could change rooms, which we agreed to do. The second night we had a lovely sleep on a memory foam mattress. The rooms we stayed in were tired looking and quite shabby in some areas, although clean. It should be mentioned that the hotel is going through a period of transition under new management, and each bedroom is being totally revamped, in fact we were shown a room that has been renovated and wow, what a difference! We were not aware of this until after breakfast just before we were leaving. We have every confidence that the Kings Head will be a great place to stay once all the changes have been made and we would definitely return when in the area again.

Great overnight stop.

Pros: Location excellent. Pub excellent, warm fire, very comfortable and welcoming. Dinner and breakfast excellent. Staff very friendly and accommodating.

Cons: The price was significantly above the two other pub/hotels and I've stayed in those and was expecting the refurbishment to make the difference, so was a little disappointed... There was quite a draught coming in the single glazed window.
