Old Swan Hotel

Surrounded by picturesque lawns and gardens, The Old Swan was once the famous retreat of Agatha Christie. It offers modern rooms with en suite facilities and on-site car parking. Originally an 18th-century coaching inn, it now features rooms with tea and coffee-making facilities, a TV and trouser press. Some also have a stand-alone bath and views over the garden. The traditional Swan Lounge and Bar offers a selection of beverages and afternoon teas, while the Wedgewood and Library restaurants serve fresh, locally sourced dishes. The Old Swan was home to Agatha Christie during her disappearance in 1926, and has since been used as a film set for the 1979 film, Agatha. Just a short walk from Harrogate town centre, the building is 5 minutes’ walk from the famous Betty’s Tearoom and 15 minutes from Harrogate Railway Station.

Ideal spot for our visit to a performance at the Royal Hall

Pros: Location was just right for our needs, the centre was well within my walking capabilities.

Cons: The room seemed a little dark, television not visible from the chairs only if you were in bed. Nowhere to put things in bathroom, for me shower in bath not a good idea but ok for younger folk.

Very good 1 night stay at the Old Swan. Wish there was more time to stay longer.

Pros: Help yourself breakfast was excellent. Full range of items to choose from. Also plenty of other choices if you didn’t fancy a fry up.

Cons: I booked a single room. When i checked in, I found that the room contained a double bed which was a pleasant surprise. However because of this, the room felt a little cramped. There wasn’t a lot of room to say the least between the end of the bed, and the adjoining wall. This is a minor inconvenience though, and didn’t really detract from the overall good experience the hotel provided.

Pros: We love staying at this hotel, not only is it historic but the decor suits the building style. The rooms are light & airy and beds are comfortable. The staff are friendly and the breakfast is excellent.
