If your staying in York stay here

Pros: Amazing location just a 10 min walk from York city centre. Free car park and free for Jaffa (the dog). Room large and spacious, recently refurbished.

Cons: It's obviously a very old pub so if you get up in the middle of the night to use the toilet the creaking floorboards make a racket!

Good value stay near central York

Pros: The accommodation appears to have been recently decorated and although the room was relatively small it was comfortable and entirely adequate for a 2 night stay.. free parking is uncommon in York and a bonus for those on a budget.

Cons: there were some quirks that didn’t cause an issue as the staff pre warned me eg around how to regulate the shower. There was an unpleasant smell in the bathroom which I unfortunately didn’t have time to report whilst I was there as the accommodation is only manned for limited hours.

An amazing find. Will be staying again!!!

Pros: We arrived early expecting to just sit and have some lunch while we waited for our room. On arrival was told we could go straight to our room as it was ready!! The lady at the bar showed us to our room and around it. She was super nice and friendly. The room was gorgeous and the beds exceptionally comfy. I can’t recommend staying here enough. About a 20 minute walk into the centre of York which was perfect for us.

A great base with really friendly staff & good rooms

Pros: Very friendly staff who made the stay a pleasure. A place to park and great beer. No breakfast available which was a shame but a very nice café nearby. Nice location a short walk into the city centre. Good large, clean rooms.

Cons: We couldn't reserve any seats in the bar/restaurant which was a minor pain after a day of hard Christmas York Market exploring, but not a big deal. The rooms could use some more furniture but they were newly furbished so perhaps that's in hand.

Pros: A very warm welcome at the Old Grey Mare. Not the usual pub food which we loved.

Great accommodation at a good price

Pros: A nice busy pub,really clean rooms….a pleasant 15 minute walk into the centre

Cosy and clean

Pros: Host was really nice and welcoming place was very clean and tidy also and the bar was very nice. York was only 14 mins walk so not far at all also places nearby for breakfast ect.

A great place to stay.

Pros: Our room was spotlessly clean, warm and comfortable. The pub has a good choice of well kept beers and the Japanese street food was a delicious added bonus. There's also a great place for breakfast next door.

Cons: The window would not open, not an issue during our winter stay but may become uncomfortable in the summer.

Excellent had an issue but more than compensate and addressed thanks to Avril

Pros: Good hospitality manager very good and couldn’t do enough for you to make stay meet and exceed expectations

Cons: Great atmosphere good drinks well priced !!

Great pub stay

Pros: A little bit further out but easy to use uber when it rained Cosy room, great shower No coat hangers but brought own clothes hanging and mentioned it at check out

Cons: Nothing very good
